Antique Victorian bustle dress circa 1880s made of cotton sateen featuring an Orientalist style print in deep blue and beige hues! This dress set is two pieces: a fitted jacket bodice and floor length skirt. The sweeping floor length skirt has a pleated hemline with a straight under hem tier. The skirt is completely unlined with exception of the straight under hem tier. It has a cotton muslin waistband with tiny gathers underneath. 3/4 of the upper gathered portion is made of brown cotton muslin - with a small gathered section of the printed polished cotton. I was told this is not uncommon of the era due to the use of a bustle pad underneath to have a sturdier fabric up top. The skirt closes with a large hook/eye center back. You can see a small section of grosgrain ribbon here as well - it's on the interior of this section as well.
The fitted jacket bodice has a teal/peacock blue cotton velvet collared neckline and center piece that extends down to the front hem with 18 cut steel button closures - all of them are present and in great condition! Triangles of this velvet trim accent the top sleeves as well as the split pleated back hem. The jacket is fully lined with cotton muslin and there is no boning at the inner seams.

Some fade to blue - most notable on left side bodice (also at upper front skirt). The left underarm actually shows a large darkened blue ring. The beige has some darkening / yellowing mostly on bodice with a couple spots on skirt. Normal edge wear to the cotton velvet. 1 tiny wear spot to fabric at right arm seam and a couple visible hand stitches under left arm seam. The velvet center piece doesn't align perfectly with the side seams - see first two pics of last collage - and there's a few tiny visible hand stitches on one side.
