Breathtaking antique 1900s embroidered white cotton Valenciennes lace tea gown or wedding dress! She's just amazing featuring floral embroidery on net, cotton pin-tuck pleats and rows of Valenciennes lace. Styled with a high lace collar neckline, long tapered sleeves, ornate bodice detailing and a flowing floor length skirt. She closes with dainty buttons down the center back, over to the left hand side and into the back left side skirt. Quite tricky to get on without help - I missed a few buttons and I can now see why a ladies' maid or helper was needed back then.
This dress along with a few others has been consigned to me and I was fortunate to obtain some background info. Made either by my consignor's maternal great grandmother, Minna Martha Germann Poole or her great great grandmother, Anna Barbara Ramseier Germann who was Minna's mother. In 1879, Anna and her husband immigrated from Bern, Switzerland because their families didn't approve of their marriage. They became farmers in Manhattan, Kansas and in 1881 their daughter Minna was born. I have a picture of Minna in her homemade wedding dress circa 1914, if you'd like to see an image I would be delighted to share.
