1800s Victorian Iridescent Check Dress, Antique Day Dress with Lace and Metallic Embroidered Floral Trim, Rare Near Mint Condition, Medium

Sorry, this item has sold.

Amazing high quality antique Victorian iridescent check day dress made in the late 1800s from the late estate of Dr. Charles Spencer Duncombe and his wife Susan A.C. Barker. Dr. Duncombe was a homeopathic physician in Racine WI in the late 1800s. Susan Barker was an avid follower of the Arts and had an amazing eye for high quality items. This 2pc dress set is no exception to her high taste and style.

Made of a high quality raised check pattern fabric with a silk finish and tightly woven with an iridescent sheen. The hue is a mix between bronze and black with a greenish sheen. Embroidered floral net lace trims the collar as well as a jabot style embellishment on the bodice. Copper and golden wheat floral appliqués with metallic bronze bullion thread embroidery also accent the right side of bodice and sleeve hems. A fabric bow with hidden hook and eye closure accents the waistline. The bodice is fully lined with black polished cotton with it's own interior hook and eye closures. Covered boning at each inner seam and a separate cotton waistband with hook and eye closure and triple eye closures on back in order to hook onto the skirt.

The skirt features an elongated back with a gathered flounce near the hem with a double hem with hem protector. The center back has tiny gathers creating such a lovely sweep. The skirt is also fully lined with black polished cotton and has two large hook/eye closures at waistband. One large hook is also present to connect to inner back of bodice.
