Early 1900s Edwardian Gibson Girl Wedding Dress | Antique Liquid Silk Satin 3-Piece Bridal Gown with Bodice, Trained Skirt & Sash Belt XXS

$500.00

Exquisite original early 1900s (circa 1901–1904) Gibson Girl wedding dress set in sumptuous liquid silk satin — also known as duchesse satin — a rare surviving three-piece bridal ensemble from the romantic early Edwardian era.

The set includes a softly bloused Gibson Girl bodice, a full gored skirt with a trained back, and a lightly boned waist sash / cummerbund. The bodice features a high, delicate dotted-net lace yoke over fine silk, lightly boned at the collar to hold shape. Ruched silk trims the net yoke and leads into softly tiered puffed sleeves with cascading ruffles, finished with narrow lace under-sleeves. Gentle gathers at the waist create that coveted pigeon-breast blouson effect, further accented by the wide satin sash belt — also lightly boned — that cinches the waist into the hourglass silhouette. The bodice closes fully down the center back with hooks and eyes and is lined in cotton with a very fine silk lining at the upper yoke and neckline.

The skirt sweeps to the floor with inset panels of finely gathered ruching, echoed at the upper front hips and circling around the back. Fluttering satin ruffles trim the front sweep and trail gracefully into a slightly longer trained back hem. The skirt is fully lined with a partially attached cotton petticoat finished with a ruffled hem, and it closes partway up the left front of the ruched waist panel with snaps and a hook-and-eye at the waistband.

Altogether, this set embodies that unmistakably romantic early-Edwardian bridal silhouette and is beautifully made.

Condition: Good!
The duchesse satin is wonderfully decadent and remains in near excellent structural condition for its age.

Bodice: A few small slits in the lace at the yoke (do not extend through to the lining). The interior fine silk lining at the neckline and in the tapered sleeves shows some minor age-related wear and small tears. There is a faint water ring and a tiny slit on the bust that is largely hidden within the gathers. The yoke ruffle shows a touch of discoloration along the left side and a tiny speck on the right.

Waist Sash: Light, faint discoloration mark.

Skirt: Some age-related discolorations, primarily near the hem, with the most notable area shown in the collage photo.

Presents beautifully! Can be worn with care - though the slits in the lace yoke should be addressed to prevent further tearing.

Enjoy!
