Rare Antique 1910s Renaissance Costume Gown, Ornate Beaded Metallic Bullion Soutache Edwardian Gown Theater Costume, Herrmann Costumer NY

$650.00

Amazing authentic antique 1910s ornate costume in the Renaissance style labeled "Herrmann Costumer New York"! Made of luxurious gold floral silk satin damask featuring heavily embellished green velvet extending down the shoulders, across the center bust and as the inverted V waistband. The embellishments include metallic soutache with tiny bugle beads, braided gold bullion that's fashioned into swirling floral petal designs with turquoise blue beads. Gathered pale golden beige silk extends above the velvet bust trim with an interior tie closure. The long sleeves are also made up of this pale golden beige silk along with the gold damask embellished with criss-crossing strands of beaded metallic soutache braid, braided gold silk and metallic bullion. The sleeves slightly taper with a subtle flare at the embellished velvet hems and have three hook/eye closures on the end of the damask right before the velvet hem.

The skirt portion is a sweeping floor length that slightly overlaps on the front left side with a finished full length opening an elongated back train. Metallic gold bullion braid coils around the hem followed by metallic lace then iridescent gold silk with more metallic gold lace and another braided coil. The bodice and sleeves are lined in soft cotton and the skirt is lined in cotton muslin and cotton sateen. The dress closes with large hook/eye closures down back to waistline and one hook/eye just below waistband at top of skirt. The interior bodice is boned and there are underarms shields in place.

A magnificent costume from the very late 1900s to mid 1910s! I found a few mentions of 'Maurice Herrmann costumer' dating from 1909 and 1914. As published on August 14, 1909. 'costumes only made to order' for balls and masquerade under Lord & Taylor. As well as an advertisement for Vanity Fair in 1914 under 'Fancy Dress and Costumes: Maurice Herrmann Costumer to the most celebrated artists. Exclusive costumes made to order."
