Rare Antique 1890s 1900s Promenade Coat, Fancy Victorian Edwardian Taupe Silk Ecru Blush Wool Jacket w Tiered Bell Sleeves Soutache Lace

Exceptional antique Victorian Edwardian coat believed to be late 1890s early 1900s in ribbed taupe silk with pale blush ecru hued wool. I believe the wool actually used to be more of a pink hue based on the color of the underside and has faded over time creating it's own pale blush ecru color. Truly a remarkable promenade coat / fancy jacket - my words cannot do her justice so please enlarge the photos for detail.

She’s styled with a ribbed silk taupe body that is enhanced with a double braided fringe trimmed wool pelerine style collar neckline featuring silk soutache trimmed floral cutouts with lace inserts and layered 3D wool flower centers. The center neckline has gathered sheer tissue silk chiffon puffs with short tiers of the braided fringe from which extend two long pleated tissue silk chiffon scarf extensions also trimmed in the braided fringe.

Her sleeves are magical starting with a wide panel of the ribbed taupe ending in diagonal cut points with two large antique steel cut gold tone shank buttons accenting then left side. Three tiers of the wool follow in sweeping bell shapes. Underneath is a structured wide cut bracelet sleeve of ribbed silk with gathers and tuck pleats before the fantastic embellished cuffed wool sleeve hems. Thought was even taken to the top shoulder area of the ribbed silk sleeve, which cannot be seen due to the wool tiers, as there are four shortened stripes of the blush pink wool.

She has the most flattering visible stitched seam-work and pintuck seams throughout with a fabulous sweeping fit and flare silhouette. Other features include 6 more of the same antique shank buttons for decoration only and a visually stunning center back embellished with two applied half moon shaped wool pieces connected to three stripes of wool that extend to applied circular wool sides. The jacket is fully lined in thin silk and there’s a small interior section of padded cotton to the upper back. The jacket closes with hook/eyes down to the waist - with a cutaway affect creating a nipped waistline. From waist the front sides are open for an open hip / swing style.

Condition: Good / Structurally excellent with exception of sheer tissue silk chiffon.

Sheer tissue silk chiffon has tearing throughout. There’s enough of it accordion pleated to help conceal the tears. Fade to felted wool and fade to ribbed silk amongst skirt folds. 2 tiny holes to wool at sleeve tier. Silk lining has wear and some tearing mostly along edges / closure areas.
