Amazing antique vintage straw sun hat featuring a colorful iridescent bluish green taxidermy parrot and wings along with vibrant dyed orange feathers and wide swaths of gathered orange silk taffeta trim. The hat flips up in the backside and there is a chin strap to keep in place. Velveteen added at interior nape around inner brim - labeled "Lindner Davis Cleveland's Corner on Fashion". Definitely a show-stopper!
Sterling Lindner Davis open in 1845 and closed in 1968. This hat reminds me of the mid to late 1910s, where taxidermy hats were all the rage. However, it appears that the women's department and accessories line did not open until the 1920s. The label on this hat actually seems more 1930s - 1940s - quite possibly the owner added their own taxidermy, feathers and silk as a homage to the past.
Outside Brim: Approx. 43 1/2"
Inner Brim: Approx. 20 3/4" - 21"
I have a 21.5" head and this fit well. The crown is not very deep which is why the chin strap is needed.
Some age wear to parrot and feathers. Feathers appear to have been dyed or tinted. Chin strap has a knot.
